Rome

Roma
Rome is one of the most ancient cities in Europe. It was founded 2700 years ago and is extremely rich in historical monuments.
It has been destroyed many times but has always succeeded in rebuilding, becoming the capital of the Roman Empire and later of Christianity, papal power and the Italian Renaissance.
The historical nucleus of Rome is considered the most beautiful in the world because of the wealth of works of art and monuments and this is one of the reasons why some five million tourists visit it every year.
The position occupied by Rome since it was founded has been fundamental because it is a crossroads between the Greek and Etruscan cultures.
The remains of the original settlements, in fact, date from 753 B.C., when Romolo designed the road network of the city.
With the advent of Christianity, Rome changed its organisation and the Lateran became the seat of the Pope.
As papal power increased, especially after the Avignon period, with Pope Boniface VII and Gregory IX, the city was subject to the absolute power of the popes, which continued throughout the Renaissance. It was precisely during the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries that there was an incredible flowering of art and culture: the popes called great artists to court to decorate, embellish and build palaces and apartments. Great masters of the calibre of Leon Battista Alberti, Michelangeno, Raffaello, Bramante, Cellini and later Bernini, Borromini and many others worked for the popes, turning the modern day Italian capital into a splendid reality.
At the end of the seventeenth century the Jacobin Republic was founded in Rome and Napoleon later abolished the temporal power of the pope.
In 1870 Rome became the capital of Italy and the 1883 zoning law made enormous changes.
The city later expanded and the quarters of Eur and the University City of the Foro Italico were built.
Visiting Rome means immerging yourself in the history, culture and art of Italy, experiencing the inner harmony and authentic beauty it is capable of giving.
